Sheriff's Office reminds all of water safety
With the temperature climbing and more families spending time outdoors, it's increasingly important to be conscious of water safety, especially for children. Please be prepared, actively supervise children, and use barriers to reduce the risk of drowning.
PREPARE:
- Learn CPR.
- Teach your child to ask for a parent/supervising adult's permission before entering water.
- Remove toys and items from pools that may encourage children to enter the water unsupervised.
- Teach children to swim and get out of the water.
- Wear life jackets.
SUPERVISE:
- Designate someone to be the "water watcher" and actively watch swimming children without distractions.
- Don't rely on swimming aids to replace adult supervision.
BARRIERS:
- Install a pool gate/fence to prevent children from wandering into the area unsupervised.
- Use door & window child-proof locks and alarms.
