Sheriff honors 102-year-old Coach Shannon
Sheriff Wells was honored to present Manatee County coaching legend Eddie Shannon with a Sheriff's Commendation award for his lifetime of community service and unwavering commitment to mentoring local youth. Shannon was the first black head football coach at the former Lincoln Memorial High School in Palmetto and went on to inspire hundreds of student-athletes at Manatee High School during his remarkable career. The 102-year-old Shannon used this special occasion to share his well-known “Keep a Goin” motivational speech with Sheriff Wells, Deputy Rickie Simmons, and Deputy John Murrell.
