School Technician Receives Sheriff’s Commendation for Life-Saving Action
Derek Hernandez, a school support technician at Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary School, was awarded the Sheriff’s Commendation Award for saving the life of a student. A few weeks ago, Hernandez noticed Ayden, a 4th-grade student, choking while eating lunch in the school cafeteria. Hernandez responded by performing the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging the food and allowing the student to breathe.
The Sheriff’s Commendation Award was presented in recognition of Hernandez’s quick and effective response during the incident. Ayden has since fully recovered and returned to his normal school activities.
