Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary Counselor Honored as Florida School Counselor of the Year
Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary recently celebrated one of its own in a heartfelt and unforgettable way. Cassandra D’Addeo, the school’s counselor, was named Florida School Counselor of the Year by the Florida School Counselor Association—an achievement that underscores her exceptional dedication to students and families.
But the accolades didn’t stop there. Back at school, D’Addeo experienced a moment of pure joy and recognition. Under the guise of needing her assistance, Principal Michael Escorcia summoned her to the cafeteria. Instead of a routine task, D’Addeo walked into a cafeteria with cheering students shouting, “SURPRISE!”
The event, organized by Media Specialist Fay Servoss, was a tribute to World Kindness Day and highlighted D’Addeo’s remarkable contributions. A stage display featured the children’s books she authored—Riley and Her Big Feelings at School, A Puppy’s Story of Resolving Peer Conflict, and A Puppy’s Story of Coping with Grief—which she had gifted to every classroom.
The tribute also included plaques recognizing her unwavering dedication, heartfelt artwork from the youngest students, and testimonials from children whose lives she profoundly impacted. Students shared stories of how D’Addeo supported them through difficult times and fostered a sense of belonging.
The celebration culminated in a musical performance as the students serenaded D’Addeo with “You Are My Sunshine” and “Kind.” Surrounded by hugs, flowers, and cheers, she graciously accepted the heartfelt recognition from the school community she serves with boundless care and compassion.
For Cassandra D’Addeo, the day was a reminder of the difference one person can make in the lives of many—a true testament to her role as a guiding light for the students of Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary.
