Preparing for the first day of school on our roads
As Manatee County is still dealing with bands from Hurricane Debby, schools are preparing to welcome back students next Monday, August 12th. Maintenance staff are making sure the buildings are ready. Administrations are putting strategies in place and welcoming teachers. Teachers are meeting and working hard to make classrooms inviting for all learners.
As the start of school quickly approaches, school buses will be back on the roads. Bus drivers will practice running their routes and check on timing. As drivers return to the roads with Debby leaving, they need to be prepared for school buses to be back on the streets.
As a reminder, when a school bus stops, the lights will flash and a stop sign will deploy from behind the driver’s area. All traffic should stop in both directions unless the lanes are divided by a physical median. Buses stop to pick up children and at all railroad crossings.
All drivers should make adjustments to allow themselves enough travel time with the added traffic to keep Manatee County roads safe for everyone.
