Parrish Man Indicted on Federal Arson Charges in Bradenton Motel Fire
A 25-year-old man from Parrish, Kendarius Devonta Stitten, has been indicted on federal arson charges following allegations he intentionally set fire to a rental van parked outside a Bradenton motel on March 20.
The indictment, announced by the United States Attorney’s Office, states that if convicted, Stitten could face a sentence of 5 to 20 years in federal prison. The Department of Justice also confirmed it is pursuing the forfeiture of assets believed to be connected to the proceeds of the crime.
This case is the result of a coordinated investigation involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations, and Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue. Authorities emphasized the importance of collaboration in responding to serious acts of property destruction and upholding the Anti-Arson Act.
While the indictment reflects serious federal charges, it does not constitute a conviction. Stitten is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam W. McCall will prosecute the case.
As legal proceedings progress, the community remains alert, awaiting the outcome of a case that underscores the consequences of arson and the weight of federal enforcement.
