Manatee County Prepares for Tropical Storm Milton as State of Emergency Remains After Hurricane Helene
As Manatee County braces for the impact of Tropical Storm Milton, a local State of Emergency remains in effect following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. County officials are taking steps to mitigate potential damage and ensure residents are prepared for the incoming storm.
In anticipation of heavy rainfall, water levels in Lake Manatee will be lowered to 37 feet to reduce the risk of flooding in surrounding areas. This measure aims to provide additional capacity for stormwater during the expected downpour.
To help residents protect their properties, sandbag stations across Manatee County have been replenished and are available at multiple locations. Residents are encouraged to visit these sites and collect sandbags ahead of the storm's arrival.
Meanwhile, debris collection efforts from Hurricane Helene continue throughout the county. Crews will work through the weekend and into next week, weather permitting, as they clear roads and public areas of storm-related debris.
Manatee County officials remain focused on both clean-up efforts and preparations for the new storm, urging residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions as Tropical Storm Milton approaches.
