Headline: Residents of Colonial Mobile Manor Still Without Power Weeks After Hurricane Milton
Palmetto, Fla. —Weeks after Hurricane Milton ravaged the Suncoast, some residents of Colonial Mobile Manor in Palmetto are still left without power. While most of the mobile home community's residents had their electricity restored on October 14 and 15, a handful of households remain in the dark, battling uncertainty and difficult living conditions.
Among them are Barbara Williams and Anna Wheeler, both of whom are struggling without power due to damaged electrical meters caused by the storm. The hurricane's destructive winds broke the meters located at the rear of their homes, leaving them reliant on property management to repair the damage before Florida Power & Light (FPL) can restore their service.
Wheeler, who is handicapped and reliant on refrigerated medication, has faced severe consequences, including the loss of her entire stock of medication after it spoiled. The situation has been exacerbated by her ongoing difficulty in moving around her home safely, particularly at night. Williams, who has also been without power for nearly two weeks, has expressed frustration with the lack of communication and action from property management.
According to FPL, the repairs must be completed by Colonial Mobile Manor’s management before they can restore power to the affected residents. However, the timeline for these repairs remains uncertain.
The property’s resident manager confirmed that an electrician has been hired but admitted that there is no clear indication of when the repairs will be finished. The manager noted that parts for the damaged meters are being sourced, but no definite timeline has been provided for when power will be restored.
City of Palmetto Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant has been made aware of the situation and has coordinated with the Red Cross to provide assistance to residents still without power. The mayor is working to ensure relief efforts reach the community as they continue to face challenges in the wake of Hurricane Milton.
As temperatures rise and living conditions become increasingly difficult, residents of Colonial Mobile Manor continue to await the much-needed repairs that will finally bring back their power, and a sense of normalcy, after the storm.
