Fugitive Wanted for 2021 Miami-Dade Murder Arrested in Manatee County
Palmetto, FL – A fugitive accused of a deadly shooting in Miami-Dade County three years ago has been apprehended in Manatee County, bringing an end to a lengthy manhunt.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office arrested 23-year-old Joshua Campos on Friday morning. Campos was wanted for the July 2021 murder of a man at an apartment complex on SW 270 Street in Miami-Dade. Authorities said Campos fired at least 18 shots at the victim while the man’s girlfriend and young child were nearby. Campos then fled the scene.
At the time of the crime, officials linked Campos to Tampa and Fort Pierce and noted he may have been traveling with an associate, 22-year-old Maxine McCord, who was not considered a fugitive. Campos was labeled "armed and dangerous" and an escape risk.
Following the murder, Campos was charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A state warrant was issued for his arrest, and in February 2024, a federal warrant followed, citing unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The FBI, which had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture, confirmed his arrest. Campos is now in custody and awaiting legal proceedings.
