Bradenton’s first hot dog eating contest winner downs 19 dogs in 10 minutes!
Ten contestants. Ten minutes. Dozens of hot dogs devoured! With a whopping 19 hot dogs and buns consumed, Michael Cox was the victor of the first Bradenton Baseball Mayor’s Classic, held at LECOM Park. Cox took home a $300 prize, a trophy, and possibly antacid. Coming in close behind were Michael Jenkins, who earned a $200 prize for impressively consuming 16 hot dogs and buns, and Ryan Sullivan, whose 14 hot dogs and buns earned him $100.
The Bradenton Baseball Mayor’s Classic is sponsored by the Pittsburg Pirates and Bradenton Marauders. The food face-off was held before Wednesday’s Marauders game and fireworks show. Bradenton Police officers kept count, and Mayor Gene Brown watched the time clock. Special guest, actor Scott Baio, helped kick off the contest.
Proceeds from the hot dog eating contest benefit the Bradenton Blue Foundation, the charitable arm of the Bradenton Police Department.
