Bradenton Sees Spike in Holiday Car Burglaries: Police Urge Vigilance
BRADENTON, Fla. – The Bradenton Police Department urges residents to take extra precautions following a surge in vehicle burglaries during the holiday season. Officers responded to eight car burglaries between December 1 and December 14, with additional incidents reported in the days since.
In an effort to combat the rise in thefts, police have increased patrols in areas known for vehicle break-ins. However, authorities stress that residents can significantly reduce their risk of becoming victims by following simple safety measures.
Many of the targeted vehicles were left unlocked, making them easy targets for thieves. During November alone, 14 car burglaries were reported, with unlocked cars accounting for the majority. Stolen items included credit and debit cards, which were the most commonly taken, as well as three firearms.
The most active hours for thefts were between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., often coinciding with shopping trips or evening activities. Police remind residents to lock car doors and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight. Shoppers are encouraged to place gifts and purchases in their trunks or to conceal them if they must remain in the vehicle.
As holiday festivities ramp up, authorities also emphasize the importance of firearm safety. Leaving a gun in a vehicle, especially an unlocked one, poses a significant risk to community safety.
The Bradenton Police Department’s proactive measures and community awareness efforts aim to reduce crime during this busy season. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
