Bradenton Man Convicted of Drug Trafficking and Firearm Offenses
Bradenton, FL – A federal investigation spearheaded by the Bradenton Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration has led to the conviction of Javier Mares, 44, on multiple drug trafficking and firearm charges. Mares, who operated an auto body shop in Bradenton, was found guilty of possessing cocaine and over 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking and as a convicted felon.
The investigation, which began in 2023, revealed that Mares was allegedly using his auto shop as a front to supply large quantities of narcotics. Authorities utilized a confidential informant to conduct several controlled purchases of fentanyl and methamphetamine from Mares’ brother, who frequently traveled between the shop and other locations during these transactions.
A search warrant executed at the auto shop uncovered a safe containing packaged methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, drug distribution tools, and a loaded firearm. The findings confirmed investigators’ suspicions of the shop's involvement in organized drug trafficking activities.
Mares now faces a sentence ranging from 15 years to life in federal prison. This case is part of an ongoing effort by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces to combat large-scale narcotics trafficking and associated crimes.
